Question about finish on Winchester rifles

I ended up with a pair of unfired Winchester Centennial rifles (rifle and carbine). The metal is brass colored. My question: is this a brass plating over steel or is the receiver actually made of brass?

From what I understand, the value is pretty low on commeratives so I may make "shooters" out of them.

Thanks for your help,
