I have an early model rem 760 .308 cal 6 didget serial # ribbed fore arm. And was wondering if I can put on a .243 barrel with out a lot of cost? Looking for youth type low recoil set up for grandchildren thanks Vern.

My advise would be to buy them a new 7600 if you want to give them that type of rifle. Till you buy the barrel and have it installed. Your probably looking at $200 or more, not sure. Plus you ruined any collector value your gun may have had. The plus side is now Grandpa and Grandchild have the same type of gun to go hunting with. I'm sure they will think that is pretty cool. If you look around you can find used 760 243 for about $400. I just bought a nice used one a few months ago for that price. However you will have to look, they just won't be sitting around at all the gun shops.
