Win Mdl 12 Value

Friend found a 1915 vintage Mdl 12 Winchester and would like to know it's value.

It's been re-blued, which I know ruins any collector value. It also has a Cutts Compensator added to the barrel. I don't know the barrel length nor what choke tube in on the Cutts. It has a 'Field' forearm IIRC.

Asking price is $365 $329.

With a Nicklesteel barrel can Steel shot be used in this?

Edit: got the price wrong. Still too high!

Thanks for the input Rufe

Way high, IMHO. Had a rough time selling a original one, in very good condition. The bore had been opened up for steel, though. Couple of years ago, for $325.

Reblued with a cutts, call it $250 tops.

With the mandatory requirement for steel, many of the older full choke guns were opened up to improved cylinder or modified. Being it has been fitted with a cutts. Shouldn't be any problem, with a improved or modified choke tube.

Your ejection port will be for 2 1/2'' shells too which to most is a no-go nowdays [;)] unless its been opened up.

Winchester built a lot of model 12s, the only ones worth any significant money are Trap and Black Diamond models, Heavy Duck models also bring a better price.

Except those Mdl 12s that are chambered for 3" shells (Heavy Duck)[:)]

Can always replace the barrel, if the wood is nice and everything else is good (including the blue), it would be nicer $50 cheaper but probably hard to find at that price.

All 12 ga model 1897's, as well as the successor Model 12's, were chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells.
