New m1a, first time shooting, what to do??

what i mean is that i recently got a new m1a. I would like to take care of it since it cost so much. I have always been a "hand gun guy" so this is the first time i will need to break in a barrel.

I have herd things like shoot one bullet then clean for five minutes, then shoot 3 bullets then clean for 15 min.

Im not sure what to do. I have no military experience, and am the only person with a gun that i know. PLEASE HELP!!!

If you want to break the barrel in according to military spec check out

    http://www.adtdl.army.mil/cgi-bin/atdl.dll/fm/23-10/ch2.htm#s1p3

It's for the M24 but I would think the process should be the same regardless of the gun.

I think awhile back there was a thread about breaking-in versus non breaking-in the barrel. I don't remember what the general concensus was.

A little back I posted a thred Breaking in a new Garand.
The basic conclusion was that unless I was going to shoot Natinal Match to just clean it real good and go shooting.
Also I read an artical about breaking in barrels and it said it was started by a custom barrel maker who wanted competion shooters to shoot out there barrels faster so he could sell more.
