Brasso for the bore?

I recently heard of someone using brasso to clean up a dark bore on a military rifle. Anyone try this? Are you better or worse off with something like bore shine?

Butch's Bore Shine and JB Bore Paste are all I use. I think it is generally a good idea to avoid products that were not intended specifically for gun use. People use WD-40 and all kinds of things that probably should not be used. Many will not hurt the bore or even the blueing, but are hard on stock finishes, some will damage the blueing.

All Brasso will do is polish the copper deposits. The bore will shine but it will be a coppertone shine!! Use Shooters Choice (or Shooters Choice mixed with Kroil in a 3:1 ratio) and a lot of elbow grease. If that doesn't help, try JB Bore Paste and if that doesn't help try http://www.storm.ca/~debin666/html/projects9.html Finally, if that doesn't help, try rebarreling!

I am sad to admit that i know brasso takes blueing off better that it cleans off brass! I must agree woth the other posts that you need to stick with products for guns only. But i must admit that wd-40 works well for cleaning guns but you need to clean it all off and put gun oil on to prevent rust.

Try pushing some steel wool down the bore on the end of a jag. Do it alot, but don't forget to add oil before evertime.

Brasso is fairly abrasive, guarantee that it will mess up the rifling.
