1911 sight blanks ?

I picked up a nickel Colt 1911 series 70 that had both sights
removed and a red dot mounted, not room for the sights because
the front had been modified-milled quarter inch wide with 2 3/16
holes in the flat. I'm thinking of finding sights and grinding
them down to fill the openings, or is there a sight blank for the
1911 ? The front must have had a target sight, any idea what kind ?
Thanks...

Go through Brownells www.brownell.com on-line catalog. If any body has that specific type of sight for a 1911 type pistol it would be them. Also call their customer service gunsmith after the holiday, he might be able to give you some guidance on it.

Brownell's has a wide variety of replacement sights, but, the problem is that you would need to compensate for the amount of steel removed from the slide. I don't think that they make oversize blank sights, &, even if they did, you would have problems mounting it. (A special staking tool is needed to install the 1911 front sight.)

Your slide has been irretrievably butchered. Hopefully you didn't pay more than the frame & barrel are worth. Replacement slides aren't hard to find; I'd buy one of those. No point throwing good money after bad.
