Made in Germany by Simon & Co. In the city of Suhl. Waffen Fabriken loosely translated to FACTORY. made out of steel made by the firm of Krupp "one of the best known in the world" in the state of Essen. Other then that we would need quality pictures to give even any kind of value.

"Fluss Stahl" translates to "Fluid Steel" which is much higher quality than damascus or twist steel and suitable for smokeless powder.

    noor ali khan,

Maybe not unknown but rather little known. There have been hundreds of small shops and gunmakers throughout Europe with concentrations in cities such as Suhl. Some grew to prominence while others have simply faded away.

Do us a favor and check the company name once more carefully, please. I have a note on a company with the name Simson but not Simon.

    Best.

I've gone through my references, and as N N has pointed out it's much more likely to be Simson then Simon.

Simson was a very well known German sporting arms manufacturing company, during the early years of the 20th Century. They made many different models, in various grades. It would be best if you could post some quality photos, to help in further identification.

If on the other hand, the marking on the shotgun is Simon instead of Simson. It might be a retailer or a gunsmith who only made shotguns on a custom basis?

    noor ali khan,

The instructions for posting photographs here are located at the top of the 'Experts' forum in a locked sticky. The directions are basic and you should be able to post photos with a little bit of trying after reading the host website instructions. If you run into a snag, e-mail me and I'll see what I can do but learning how to post photos will benefit you in the long run as far as getting help with your other firearms. Time is short today and for the next few weeks so my response may not be immediate as in within a few minutes.

Many of us are anticipating your pictures!

    Best.

A good quality German shotgun. Not a Best gun by any means. Just a good field gun built on German tradition.

Value? First, it depends where you're located. The gun will be worth more in Germany than here in the US. German shotguns don't usually fetch a premium here and this gun will be no exception.

I believe the gun to have had the finish removed and I see a stock repair. Further, I expect the stock to have been cut and an ugly rubber pad added. This is the kiss of death for any collector interest as a rule.

These demerits take the gun directly into the "shooter" class. As such you're probably looking at a $450.00 gun. Perhaps a bit more with proper refinishing and a bit less if the photos have failed to convey something of note. (I assume the gun to be in good mechanical condition.)

I'd probably use the gun as my upland firearm of choice if it fits and patterns well. After all, upland game is what it was made for.

    PS -

Not an 80% gun. Only that if original in all respects.

Simson & Co. were one of Suhl (Thuringen) Germanies best known gunmaking businesses prior to the First World War. They are held in high regard by collectors, particularly in Europe. The Nazi's took the company from the owners (they were Jewish) and converted the plant to production of military arms just prior to WWII. After the war it went back to the Simson's for a short time, but ownership was again taken - this time by the Soviet Union (Suhl is in East Germany). There is some evidence that other gun manufactures in the Eastern block used the Simson name to manufacture guns of inferior quality, at least for a short time. The original Simson & Co. went on to manufacture motorcycles, but has now been closed.
