How would I go about finding out when my Remington Model 788 .222 was manufactured? Can I contact the manufacturer and simply give them the serial #?

Also, I have heard that the .222 will shoot .223 rounds safely. Is this true? I know the .223 clip works, but not sure about the ammo...

    Thanks very much

I have a Weatherby Mark V in 7mm Wby mag, made in Japan, matte blue, 26 inch barrel, and sitting in an HS Precision synthethic stock (tan with black webbing and alum bedding block). It has a few scratches on the bolt knob and a slight mark on the forearm at the sling stud from using a bipod. The rifling is in great shape, with no rust. It is very accurate and has a very crisp trigger.

What is the proper price to list in an auction here?

Welcome to the forum, there are plenty of fine folks here with a wealth of knowledge they are willing to share. Your question is kind of like asking, "I bought a Ford 10 years ago what are they going for". I have learned that pictures go a long way. At least a good description of finish, etc. would help. You can search the present listings and completed auctions and get a good idea of what things go for.

    $75 . If its a smoothbore than double that price. 514P maybe a $100.

Just going by blue book prices the standard 514 at 90% is listed at $75.00. Blue book lists a Routledge/Smoothbore 514 made between 1951-1969. 5,557 made. 90% smootbore is $210.00. In our experience "in good shape for its age" probably means 70-80% condition if that .
