The Bear compound Bow has been around for a long time.As for killing Deer sized game anything in the 45 pound up range works well.I see guys at work shooing 75 pound Bows and they cant shoot consistently with them My opinion 50pds is comfortable and more than enough to do the job.

    Best of luck!!

I've been bow hunting deer for several decades now, and like guns, you shoot what you can comfortably and accurately handle. That's 35#'s for some (legal here in WI), and 80# and more for others. As for the Bear Whitetail, my understanding is it's a very early Bear model (appearing in the 70's ?), and not very valuable. It was one of the first compounds, but was very noisey to shoot. Good technology for the day, but ancient now. I see used Whitetails for $25 and less. These old bows had metal brackets at the ends of the limbs onto which the pulley was attached. No modern bow appears like this. If this does not sound like the bow you're considering, check with the folks on the archery forum here at Gunbroker.
Good luck on your hunt this Fall.

I had one in the 70s it was a target bow noisy but very nice for its day I would think you could do alot better for your labor the bow is not worth very much

slug hunter20: welcome! like every one else has said, the bear whitetail is a very old bow in the archery world, its old , slow, heavy and noisy,,
now if you want a really top of the line bow, go with the Mathew's Solo Cam made in Sparta WI 608-269-2728 call them for info or for the nearest dealer to you ,, let me put it this way once you've shot a Mathew's you would'nt want to shoot anything else , they may cost a little bit more but they are so worth it

Welcome Slug Hunter! Just to let you know, the best shot I ever made in my life was with my friends Whitetail Hunter. Get it free for the Bobcat work, and see if you like archery (I'm sure you will). Then decide where you want to go with it.
