J.P.Sauer Drilling - need idea of value

I have an old drilling with two 16 gauge shotgun barrels on top and an 8x57J.R. rifle barrel on bottom. The gun is marked "J.P.Sauer & Sohn, Suhl" and on the barrels "Krupp-Lauistahld." It was manufactured prior to WWII and is in good condition, probably 80-90%.

I intend to sell the gun but don't have a clue as to what to ask or how much it might bring. Anyone out there with any suggestions or experience with these guns?

Hard to say, can't find any listing for that caliber....from what I can find it could be worth anything from $1000-to-$5000.

Rafter-S, That is one of the better European drilling rifle caliber's. Ammo is available but expensive. The value of the rifle depends on the grade of the gun. This means the extent and quality of engraving, extra features like a bullet trap in the stock, horn buttplate or horn triggerguard, and as with all guns, the most important factor is condition. With that relatively modern cartridge, I assume it is a hammerless gun. With no more information than you have provided, I would go along with Rembrandts estimate of value. I know a $4,000 range of values is not much help.

Thanks guys. You sound like you know a lot about old drillings. I realize you are not in the "free appraisal" business, but if you wouldn't mind, I would send you a digital photo of the rifle and a more detailed description. Just email me at bsebast@airmail.net and I will send you the information direct. Thanks, Rafter-S

P.S. Also, in your associations, do you know people who would be buyers for such rifles?

    Rafter-S,

I tried to email a request for photos of the drilling but it would not go through to the address you provided. Please send them to
