Can someone please tell me the cutoff serial number and year for the "Second Generation" Colt SAA and the beginning number and year for the "Third Generation"? I just moved and haven't located my books yet. Thanks!

1978 the last SA suffix. 99999SA. Then they went to the SA prefix. First was SA01001. Don't know if that [serNo change] meant the jump from 2nd to 3rd generation. Best, Joe

Yes, I checked Proofhouse.com as well but it isn't clear exactly where the 2nd generation left off. 999999SA wasn't necessarily the last 2nd Gen. That's why I'd like to know for sure as I'm waiting for serial number on a Colt SAA that was allegedly made in 1973 but I want to be able to confirm that it's a Second Generation just in case the seller meant to type 1983 or 1993.
No NO you can't go by prefix vs sufix The last gen 2 guns were 7xxxxxSA guns and the earyl 3 gen were also XXXXXXSA I can't remember the exact cut off
That's what I thought. I think the changeover was in 1976 or 1977. Maybe someone has the exact serial numbers. Thanks, Perry.
Hope this helps, but don't rely too heavily on this information because I don't have the reference books in front of me.
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
This seller claims his Colt SAA was made in 1973 but it's a "Third Generation" which I knew to be impossible if it was in fact built in 1973. He had to be wrong either about the generation or the year. I e-mailed him and asked for the serial number, which turned out to be SA011xx. That confirms it to be a 3rd Generation but manufacture year would be more like 1978. I advised him when he had it listed the last time but he never changed it then nor did he change it when he relisted it. I hope someone doesn't buy it thinking it's really a 2nd Generation. Caveat Emptor - it pays to do your homework.
Thanks again, guys.
