This has probably been asked 1000 times. Are they Armscor imports? Are they made in house in their Texas plant? Quality, fit and finish? I did a search on the forum and didn't really find any useful information. Anyone have real, hands on experience with these instead of hearsay from their uncle's friend's cousin.

Hello I am a fan of the older High Standard Sadly to say IMHO their 1911 Clone is not made in the USA but rather a ARMSCOR import I did some rockwell hardness test when they first came out and was NOT impressed they may or may not been inproved I plan on doing the same on the new offering by Tauraus this spring."Praise The HARD-BALL Gun"

They had two different lines of 1911's from what I remember. The high end line looked pretty decent; made in the US, tight slide, nice trigger. Then they had the Armscor line which they were selling for $299 in think. They were absolute junk and should be avoided.

I have had really good luck with my Armscor Rock Island GI 1911. Paid $325 for it almost 2 years ago and have put a couple 1000rds through it with no problems. Gun has been 100% reliable right out of the box. I would not hesitate to buy a 2nd one. If the Armscor High Standard is anything like the RIA, I'd say go for it.

For $389 it's hard to beat:

Take a look at the Kimber custom also. I believe its the lowest price Kimber and its quite a shooter. I have the lighwight version and paid about $500 for it put on some Hogue grips and its one heck of a carry gun.

It has all the enhancements that the other Kimbers have but not the pretty finish and sexy cuts.

Hi standard, Charles Daly, RIA are all armscor and all 100% crap in the quality control dept. Some work great, some worke like crap or have soft metal.

Cheapest 1911 I would for for is a Auto Ord (kahr made), but I hate the grip safety and feel of the 1911 (Blasphemy I know I know) so I wouldnt buy one other than to fill out my collection.

My first handgun was a High Standard 1911 I purchased for 400 in 2006. I put over 6000 rounds through it and as long as I didn't use CCI brass ammo, it worked perfectly. Worked well as a Concealed Carry gun due to the flat body style of the 1911. I upgraded the grips, thumb safety and trigger pull, all in all a very decent gun. Slide did not fit as tight as a Sig Sauer or Taurus model, but it still shot straight and I'd trust my life to it. Sold it for a Glock 23 because i needed higher capacity.
