Don't own one but I'veheard they are based on the Makarov. IOf this is true they must great little guns. I've had two Makarovs. Sold the first one and hated myself. When I got the second one I decided I'de give it up when I'm dead. So if the CZ82 is what I've heard it is. It must be great.

Have owned several CZ pistols over the years, though not the 82. They have all been fine weapons. The CZ75 is a legendary and much copied pistol, one of the first "wonder nines". It would surprise me if the 82 was not a top notch piece.

I have a CZ82. It is quite used and worn. Got it from SOG, and was a more than a bit disappointed in the condition. It is a crap shoot as to what condition a internet buy will be in. Some folks claim to get almost new for the same $250 I spent. If I had it to do again, I'd get a new CZ83. If you actually handle one check out the action thouroughly.

One really nice thing about these guns is the barrel and hence the accuracy. Mine is a real tack driver. The CZ polygonal barrel doesn't look like a HK or Glock barrel. CZs are smoother and rounder, but very, very accurate. I'd put my CZ up against my P7 and have a close match.

CZ82s are a good, not great pistol, weigh in the same as a Bersa but hold 12+1 rounds. Can dot "i" s at 15 yards. The fit and finish is military utilitarian. A good one in prime condition I would rate as a Best Buy.

9x18 ammo is pretty easy to find and can be fairly cheap.

One of the few handguns in my collection that I view as a defense level pistol. That 82 and my East German Mak are two of the three pistols I own that have NEVER had a failure to feed, eject, or go bang when I pulled the trigger...EVER!!! My confidence in the two 9x18's is unflapable, and frankly, I would rather have a little 9 that works every time on the bedstand as opposed to any of the 3 45's I own that are great, but only 98% performers. Oh yeah, the other zero malfunction pistol I own? A Steyr Hahn 1912. Been reloading for it for years, and it just eats up anything (and any bullet shape for that matter)you throw at it, at any pressure level and just comes back for more! Evidently, all the Gee Whiz gadgetry and CNC machining of the late 20th century did not neccesarily make for more reliable guns.

ripley16: The wholesale price is 229, plus 10 for hand select and on. By the time its all said and done, probably around $300 bucks. Therefore, your advice makes great sense. I really like the idea of buying the CZ 83 (new) instead. Thanks a million

Just recently bought one myself. Not thrilled with the painted finish but the single and double action are very smooth for a semiauto with little creep.

I DO want to relate one recent experience I had with mine. I had just run a box of FMJ's through mine and was going to field-strip it and wipe it off when I realized that I couldn't move the slide. I was mystified. There had been no problems while shooting, none. Called a friend who used to be a military armorer and he found the prob: there is a pin that runs through the slide channels on the frame in the rear which holds the ejector in place. If you look above the safety lever on the left side, the end of said pin is painted red to indicate "fire". You can see the other end of it on the opposite side. Mine had slipped into the slide channel, blocking slide movement. He tapped it back in place and everything is fine. Bears watching. I'm wondering if I should carefully Loc-Tite it in place. Anybody had the same problem?

I just got a CZ82. I haven't had the pin problem, but I did notice that the slide seemed to stick in two spots at the rear of the slide when the gun was cocked. On further inspection, it was found that the slide encountered the hammer. This causes the slide to stick in two places. I wonder if this is normal, or what? Any input would be greatly appreciated. The gun shoots REALLY well, making me look good. I got mine at Gander Mountain in N.Y. $250 plus the usual sales tax. I didn't think that a bad price at all, whadaya think?
