I know somebody that has some Civil War guns for sale. They were appraised about 3-4 years ago, and the guy is selling them at the old prices. He has a Smith Carbine(don't know the model, or year, yet) He wants 1400.00, and it's supposed to be very clean. Also has a Harper's Ferry conversion musket, A Harpers Ferry Flintlock musket, and a Springfield Musket. All of them are 1400.00 each. I'm kinda interested in the Smith. Any ideas?

Too few details. We would need models, markings and conditions. Smiths are nice carbines. Compare it to this one but note that it has been relisted several times: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=85180239

And, pay no attention to his "appraisals"; they ain't worth the paper they are written on, unless done by someone like John Supica.

You're going to have to do a lot of homework, or you risk getting taken to the cleaners.

Thanks. I know the man that appraised, and he probably did a good job, but that was several years ago. I recently aquired a nice Sharps that this guy once had. Perhaps the Sharps 1863 SRC was the best item in the lot?? I haven't seen the others, yet. Smit's may not appreciate quite like some others.

It seems the civil war pieces are tougher to sell for some reason,,,I've had a civil war Merril SRC listed here for several weeks and never went over 950
I believe weapons like these need more exposure than lets say a winchester model 12
