I have a German P38 that my grandfather took it back from the WW II. Just would like to know the value and perhaps would sell it. It's marked P38 on the left side of the slide just before the barrell and "ac 143" to the right of that. The ac is above the 143. The serial number (near the safety switch on left side) reads "7718k". This number is also at the top of the trigger on the right. The left side are some markings. Getting my magnifying glass I can read on the right 3 markings. From left to right they read " 359 (with a symbol above it), next is the same symbol, then the 359 with the same symbol above it. The rest of the gun appears to be in very good shape. Grip is black. Thanks.

Hello condition would be the big factor sort of like a 60 year old Car "I have a 55 CHEV what is it worth" If you can post pictures that will help .The marking you see denote what company made the pistol . Sort of like the "COLT TYPE 1911A1 the u.s. army used in WW I -1970's " that were built by Colt ,Rem-Rand ,Ithaca and many others . The Germany Military of WW II used codes. The 359 and Symbol are German inspector acceptance marks. .Hope this helps Pictures would be great .look at top of this forum at the "sticky" this will give hints on how to post pictures.

You pistol was made by Walther (ac) in 1943. The "143" you see is actually only "43". On that year, there are 4 places to find the serial number, two you have found. The other two are on the barrel at the front visible without having to disassemble, and on the locking block which you will have to disassemble to see. It will be attached to the barrel assembly. The Eagle 359 you see is called a Waffenamt and is the inspection office attached to the Walther plant.
Your weapon is the 127,718th P.38 made that year by Walther, so it's a fairly common variation. $475-$700 would be about max if it is as you claim.
