A friend called me and asked if i could find the price of a Winchester. The only thing he said was on it was a date June 20, 1881
was ever such a gun made or was it actually a model 1887 that had been rubbed down to look like 1881? If the gun does exist what is it worth? ty

Going to need a physical description or pictures. That is a patent date and the gun was probably made after that time but maybe shortly before. But that is all it means on dating, it is not a model number. John Browning was designing most Winchesters by then and does not have an 1881 patent that I could find. His 1887 patent was apparently for a design Winchester bought up not to produce but to keep out of the hands of other manufacturers.

    1887 10 or 12 ga 30 or 32 in bbl 4 shot tube mag made 1887 to 1901 $500 plus. Blue Book says the 12 was 2 5/8 not the 2 3/4 we use today, 10 were 2 /78. B

The actual patent date for the Winchester Model 1887 lever-action shotgun is Feb 16 and July 20th, 1886. There is no Winchester lever-action with an "1881" patent date.

Waht is te caliber/cartridge chambering of the gun in question?
