Sent in all my forms like the 3rd of august they charged my credit card on the 10th or so, I still havent heard anything from them however.

About how long does it take? And shouldent I have heard from them by now?

You need to have patience. It took mine 6 months, a letter to my congressman, and two visits from the BATF inspector. I sent my application 2 weeks before 9/11/01 so that was a factor.

It took about six weeks (four weeks after they ran the credit card) to get mine in the mail.

    Six weeks for me too.
It seems you are anxious to get your license, imagine that.

To occupy your time while you wait....
Make sure you pay your credit card bill off.
If you are married, get/use a separate card in your name only for the gun stuff (Not that I lie to my life-mate, it just minimizes the questions she asks).
I'm sure you have dog-eared all the flyers from SOG and others, but prioritize your current 'wish list', while always leaving provisions for that 'once in a blue moon' chance when it comes along. ( I just missed one by 30 minutes)

There, for at least a few minutes I took your mind off the wait.

    ENJOY !!

The distributors will beat a path to your door. I use Sports South Inc. They are easy to deal with and have a good web site and online catalog.

I am anxious because I don't have a job currently and once I get my ffl I can start gunsmithing, while I wait I have been improving my shop/new house and doing odd jobs for money/looking for a half decent job to keep me occupied.

I would like to just do gunsmithing and a couple other things for my income and unfortunetly you can't do that without an ffl.

It would just be nice to start up all of the things im going to do at once because it makes the advertising a lot easier.

    Gunsmithing
    Computer Repair
    Ebay Consignment Sales
    Gunbroker Consignment Sales

I am out in the boonies so will not be getting much if any BM sales have to rely on the internet/gunsmithing.

But anyhow I am keeping bussy I have lots and lots to do around here, workshop is only half finished I can work in it now but its not "done", House is a mess from moving looks like a warehouse, need to level/add fill in my pole building, Find and mark my property lines cut up and stack about 50 down trees as well as pull them out of the brush to do that, finish my target range which involves cutting down another 100+ trees and building up the path/making ditches, sell a whole load of stuff on ebay thats been sitting around and some on gunbroker as well, build a new chicken coop possibly before winter if this one gets any worse, barb wire/electric fence in some areas for goats for next year.

And thats just what I can remeber of course not all of it is super important but it all has to get done eventualy, oh ya and top of the list is taking time to help my father build a new shower in there house. We already took the time to rip out the old leaking poured reinforced concrete one "lots of fun"

Anyhow enough of my babbling thanks for the info on the 6 weeks. Did both of you guys get calls/inspections?

Also right now my shop is a stick shed on blocks 16x12 right now it just has knob locks no deadbolts althought the back door has a hasp inside, I also have a gunsafe in there.

    Do I need
a security system? "I have a pos one I can put in there but wouldent trust it" I plan to purchase a decent one but right now money is tight"
deadbolts? have been meaning to add them I just havent gotten to it
Oh ya and I have 1 window, do they want it barred?

A gunsafe is just about mandatory.

So, it has been a while since you submitted your application, how is it going? Do you have your FFL? If so, how long did it take? If not, at what stage are you in now? I am to that waiting period now.. It is driving me nuts!

The way it worked for me....

    Submit application
Wait a while (forget how long)
Got a call from ATF inspector, set up appointment.
Inspection. Inspector approved/recommended business for FFL.
Week or two later FFL in mail. (looked like junk mail IIRC, almost threw it away).
