Hello the confusion comes with THIS fixed sight model single action only.At first the frame was much larger and this pistol was built for the cowboy shooters so the late model ones were made closer to the size of the colt SAA. Both the new and old model of this model of Rger are/were made long after the last 3 screw of any kind was made. I guess it is just a matter of terms I think we will have to go with 3 screw to I.D. the old old model.

With the introduction of the "New Vaquero" in 2005, the term "Old Model Vaquero" was adopted to differentiate between the two models. Even Sturm-Ruger refers to the former version as the "Old Model" Vaquero on their website. It's even more confusing in the search listings when someone has an old model that's still new in the box. It's not uncommon to see "New Old Model Vaquero" listed. I guess when used New Models are being offered, they'll be listed as "Old New Model Vaquero"!

New model Vaquaros have a three digit prefix in the serial number. Today it is "510" . Old models have a two digit prefix.

NO if your gun says New Model Blackhawk on the left side of the frame , its a post 1972 large frame Blackhawk with adjustable sights

there is no such thing as a Old Model Vaquero , the discontinued model is the Vaquero the new version is the New Model Vaquero , thats all there is too it pretty simple if people would just leave it alone

Well, if that's what you want people to do you had better start with Sturm-Ruger themselves. They specifically refer to the former Vaquero as the "Old Vaquero".
