does anyone have any ideas on the multi sale of handguns. i filled out this form and faxed it to the atf. then i went to my local sheriffs office to deliver the 2nd copy and he told me that they dont take them anymore, nor do they need them. i called atf office and she said i still need to mail it to the sheriffs office. any ideas?

Most compliance types are idiots. Do whatever you feel you need to. My SO didn't use them either.

We have to send ours to the state police.

The ATF requires copy 1 be mailed or faxed to them no later than close of business on the day that the multiple sale or other disposition occurs. Copy 2 must be mailed or delivered to the State or local authority designated to receive the form. The designated authority is not required to do anything with the form and if they choose to use the circular file we all benefit. Just send the form and keep the ATF happy.

I'm still trying to figure out what's the big hurry...It's gotta be faxed no later than close of business...BUT!!!! Snail mail could take 3 or 4 days... Something about it just dosn't make sense????

I have been working with Federal and State regulations for most of my adult life. One of the first things I learned was that using logic or common sense when interpreting them will only get you in trouble.

EOD Guy is correct. The ATF's interpretation of anything often defies reason or reality. A dealer could very well complete a transaction on a Saturday evening and deliver the form within minutes to the post office just after the last mail processing for the day and not receive a postmark until Monday AM.
