NEF Handi Rifle Question

I bought a used Handi rifle today in 30-06. It has a synthetic stock set and a 3-9 scope. The buttstock has a steel bar in it to reduce recoil. Have any of you tried shooting this particular model without the bar? How was the recoil?

the bar you are speaking of is there for the sling stud to attache to. also it adds stiffness to the plastic stock. you should leave it as is.

The bar in mine isn't attached to the stock. It is 8 inches long and 1/2 inches square and is solid steel. It has a foam insert that more or less keeps it centered and in place in the stock. It's only function appears to add weight for recoil reduction.

i apologize sir. i was thinking of the rossi. you are correct. it was to reduce recoil.
