Years ago I aquired this holster. It has a "US" with an oval embossed on the front and a "FINK 1942" stamped on the back. It appears to be for a revolver. Can anyone tell me the kind of vintage pistol I should be looking for to fill this thing? Thanks

My guess is that it would be either for a World War I vintage, Smith & Wesson or Colt Model 1917, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.

Notice how the belt loop tilts? It was a carryover from the cavalry days. Holster was meant to be worn on the left side, butt forward, and used in cross-draw while mounted. Definately WWI (or prior). You're probably good to go with a Colt or S&W M1917 .45 (ones with the lanyard ring). However, ask a gunsmith to fit a large frame S&W revolver into the holster. If it's too tight, [unlikely] then the holster was meant for a Spanish American war .38. Best, Joe

    I believe WW2.
    WW1 were left side.
    WW2 ,right side.
Model 1917's were issued during WW2.
