Im looking for a scope to go on my 586.

What power scope is sufficient? I'd be taking deer at up to 100 yards. 2X20 good enough or should I move up?

My old eyes are getting a little tired for handgun hunting , would you recomend a low power scope or a red dot for my 44 mag Super Black Hawk????

I picked up a Bausch & Laumb pistol scope in a trade and was thinking about putting it on my .221 fireball. any one have an opinion as to quality and value of these scopes?

I switched from a Leupold M8-2X to a Tasco PPII on my Colt Anaconda about 12 years ago. My old eyes can get on target quicker with the Red dot. Eye relief does not come into play with the Red dot sight.

A red dot is easy to see and fast but no magnification and the dot covers several ( ususally 5 ) minutes of angle - the 2x scope is more precise for sure. For defence I would got the dot, for hunting, the scope. I have both. And of course - the battery dies from time to time with the dot.

I use both Burris and Leupold 2X on my revolvers. The 2X is good out to 100 yds or so --- about the effective range of a revolver for hunting, IMHO. The Elite 2x6 is also a good handgun scope if you desire more magnification, but it is bigger than the 2x.

    Good hunting.

mb & wt have it right. Depends on what you want to use them for. Close and fast, go with the dot, far and precise, the scope.

I have Weaver scopes on quite a few of my T/C handguns. They hold up well to the recoil of 375 H & H, 405 Win & 45/70 and should hold up to a 44 Mag no problem. About $125.00 for a fixed 2X or 4X.

Burris and Leupold are of course excellent. T/C makes excellent handgun scopes and wil replace free of charge if they fail. I had a very old $40.00 T/C give way on a 416 Rigby barrel, T/C sent me a new 3 to 9X scope no charge.

I'm figuring deer and hog hunting within 100 yds or so, the 2x is sounding pretty good
