I picked up a finger groove (early 30s')mod 67 for $75.00 it was in 80+ condition till I pulled the stock,a couple bad cancers or pits,I am gonna make it a project rifle to see how well I can refinish using the winchester red brown oil and rust blue, my question is can I rechamber this single shot to shoot the new 32gr ballistic tip .22mags, if its within pressure limits I can see no drawbacks. very best

Hello the bore size is larger on 22mag as well as the rim size . My advise is leave as 22LR.

Edit Edit Hello KC5QXC the bullet on a long rifle is a heeled bullet the bullet in front of the case mouth is same diameter as case However the 22 Mag has a bullet like a highpower rifle IE the base of the bullet is full size and is inside the case mouth. 22long rifle =.222 22mag= .224 does not sound like much but remember 22LR is soft non jacket 22 Mag Jacketed I still strongly suggest you DON'T rechamber.

I always thought the bullet was the same diameter, but the mag case was a larger diameter....that's why shooting a LR in a mag will split the case. I am gonna put my calipers on those bullets tomorrow to find out for sure !!! I got a model 67 that could use that also if possible.(I got a 67A also that I had a scope mounted on. It's my favorite squriell...tree rat rifle)

Nope... the 22 mag has a larger bullet diameter than the 22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle (just as Perry stated). The 22 magnum has a .224 diameter just like the modern 22 caliber centerfire cartridges do.

    Howdy
I put my calipers on the .22LR and the .22WMR.
Both bullets measure the same..... .223.
The case on the LR measures .223.
The case on the WMR measures .239.
The rounds I used were Win wildcat .22 LR and PMC .22 Win Mag.
    Maybe others are different.

In order to properly measure the 22 mag bullet, you need to pull it from the case. Believe me, they are .224.

The problem is not so much the .001 difference in the bullet diameter. The bullets are soft lead and will easily swage. In many different manufactures there is a small variation in bore size. The main problem is the locking lug system. Most of the old guns the only locking lug is the bolt handle. These are definitely unsafe. Other guns are fine, for instance the 580 series Remington's. These have the six rear locking lugs like the 788 center fires. Very much over engineered. This is the same action that holds the 5mm rimfire and look at the pressure for that round. Many of the Remington 510's have been rechambered for the 22 mag as they have an opposing locking lug opposite the bolt handle. As to the rim difference, when you rechamber with the extractor in place it will cut both the chamber and the rim at the same time.

Leave it as is. Sell it and buy a 22mag. I just sold a '67 in good condition for $135 at a gun show [8D]
