Bought a Dan Wesson .357 and it has no model # anywhere on it. How can I find out what the model is? It has an 8" barrel.Think it's a model 15 by looking at some on the auction site. Is there a foolproof way to tell ?
Thanks, Pete

Without a photo this is my best guess.
Blued, .357, adjustable sights, removable front sight, removable barrel, internal nut on the barrel would be a Model 15.
Fixed sights, all else the same, Model 14
Exposed nut on end of barrel, Model 11 or 12 (I think)
Stainless, put a 7 in front of the model number.
Vent rib barrel, put a V behind the model number
Full lug all the way to the end of the barrel, Heavy model, add an H after the V.
So, a Model 15VH would be adjustable sights, vent rib, full lug.
The length of the barrel is inconsequential, the barrel can be changed in about 2 minutes with a different length. Should say .357 CTG on the barrel lug but be advised the shroud over the barrel is interchangeable with other calibers so it pays to check it completely out.

Mine is a 15V according to your list....it has the raised vent rib barrel, but no lug out to the end....just a short lug at the rear. Just found a Dan Wesson forum at http://www.danwessonforum.com/
