What years of the Winchester spectrum were these built - particularly shotguns?

Hello jchiltonr: I'm afraid you will have to be a little more specific. IE: the Md 37 single shot shotgun had the word WINCHESTER stamped and the bottom of the frame, (receiver) they filled it in with red paint. Hence the term "Red Letter" referring to the early Md 37s), this was discountinued about 1948.

Now along about 1963, Winchester changed the pitol grip cap on the Md 12 and and the "new one" had a RED W, this can also be found on the Md 101. Some people refer to this as a "Red Letter" gun.

    Regards Dave

Are red letter gun's more valuable than one's with out the red letter's. I have a 30-06 m-70 made around 1967 with red letters on the pistol grip cap and stamped on the receiver.
