IM NEW TO THESE FORUMS,BUT SEE A LOT OF GREAT INFO IS TO BE HAD HERE. IM RESEARCHING A WINCHESTER MOD.94 LEVER ACTION THAT WAS GIVEN TO MY NEPHEW BY HIS GRAND DAD BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY. UNFORTUNATLY MY NEPHEW DIDNT ASK ANOUGH QUESTIONS. IT'S IN NICE SHAPE,THOUGH THE BUTT STOCK I BELEIVE IS NOT THE ORIGINAL.I AM HOPING SOME OF YOU OUT THERE MAY BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT WITH A ROUGH DATE AND MAYBE A VALUE ON THIS RIFLE.IT'S CHAMBERED OR MARKED FOR 30 W.C.F (30-30).THE BUTT IS FLAT IN BACK NOT CRESENT, WHICH LEAD ME TO BELEIVE IT WAS REPLACED AT SOME POINT. THE SERIAL NUMBER IS #1159449. UNLESS IM MISTAKEN THIS WOULD PUT IT'S DATE OF MANUFACTURE BEFORE 1948.ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THE RIFLE MEANS ALOT TO MY NEPHEW SO AS AN UPCOMING BIRTHDAY PRESENT I WANT TO FIX IT UP FOR HIM AND HAVE SOME HISTORY ON IT.THANKS

Hello STOP do not "FIX IT UP" most people like older winchesters to be in original condition . If you fix it up most likely it will hurt value Wait for Bert H and KIMI and other winchester people to see your post Your 94 might have come from the factory with SHOTGUN style butt stock. If you need to protect metal and wood use some Ballistol it will not hurt metal or wood.

    Hello,

First thing, please turn off your CAPS LOCK... it is a bit hard to read.

Your nephew's Model 94 Carbine was positively manufactured in the year 1937. The "flat" style buttstock was standard during that timeframe, and it is extremely likely that it is original to the gun.

Whatever you do, do not "fix" it up... leave it exactly as it is today (other than a light cleaning).

....and please, inform your nephew he has a collector gun. Altering it (sanding the wood, using anything on the metal except a wipe-down with an oily rag) will remove it from collector status. In other words, collectors (the high dollar buyers) won't touch it.

Firearms (and sometimes furniture) is one of the collecting fields that "making it pretty" actually reduces the value. Best, Joe
