How would these guns be for hunting in the woods?
Can you use standard .308 win ammo for it...I will reload for it so should there be any concerns about that?

How strong are the actions?
How would the muzzle blast and recoil be out of that short barrrle and small gun?

A freind is wanting to sell me this gun.
I'm lost on most of this military stuff,
so help me out.Overall condition is Very Good.
    It says:
    No4 MkI *
    LONG BRANCH
    1943

44L7398 (on the"collar"just behind the reciever)
S126 (on the ring on the very frt.of the forearm)
    The magazine(clip) has two numbers:46739 and 47398

The metal on this thing looks original and in Very Good condition.

The wood looks to have been refinished(a long time ago)
    and is also Very Good.

Neither of us have any idea what it's worth,so maybe
ya'll can help us out on a fair price.

    Thanks,
    BW

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.

These are chambered for 7.62NATO not 308 Winchester. 308 is loaded hotter and is not really recommended by many who shoot mil surp guns. I have heard of people doing it in these for they are beefed up from a normal Enfield, but I would pass and for a few more bucks look at the Stevens 200 which is a Savage without the adjustable trigger. You will find that optics mount much better than on the Enfield and parts will be easier to find.

I'd probably go for something a bit better, the Enfield actions are good, but there are better things on the market than this for what you're looking for. This rifle may have a tendency to be a pretty hard bruiser.

The Ishapore enfields are good rifles, but that looks like way too much money for a rifle in that condition. I sold a couple of the full size Ishapores two years ago, and they brought about a hundred apiece, and were almost like new. They will handle the 308 cartridge without any problems, but I think you can do better.

The SAAMI spec on 7.62 NATO is about 5,000 CUP lighter than the spec for .308 Winchester. And the Ishapore rifles were made for 7.62 NATO, not .308. You might shoot full power .308s with no problem- but I would not bet on it. Large batch of these rifles just sold out at a national wholesaler for $99 each. Ya pays ya money, ya takes ya pick. [:p]

OUCH! Sorry just looked at the ad- this is a 2A cut back to Jungle Carbine!!! The Jungle Carbines in .303 had problems (among others) with excessive recoil and muzzle flash. Don't want to THINK about recoil/ flash with 7.62 NATO, much less .308 Win.

I think the recoil objection is due to the brass recoil pad, not the size of the gun really. I had a Navy Arm cut down #2, it had a rubber recoil pad on it & was an easy shooter. I still have a Gibbs Enfield in 45.70 and even with stiff handloads it's pretty easy to shoot.
