Removing forend from mossberg shotgun

Need some instruction on how to remove the forend (wood from the metal slides) of a mossberg model 500 shotgun...are any special tools needed to do this? What tools are needed to remove the stock?

There is a spanner nut on the front of the forearm. You can use an AR 15 buttstock wrench to remove it if you have one. I know a guy who used a piece of pipe and made a tool or if it loose enough you can just turn it with your hand.

If the nut is not too tight, I've used two small screwdrivers in the slots. After you take the butt plate or pad off use a long screwdriver to get the stock off.

Brownells has the correct tool to do this without damaging the nut....
