I am looking to buy a used 10/22 and customize it with a new stock, etc. Is there a guide anywhere regarding all the variations in which the 10/22 has been made over the years?

    The Ruger 10/22 is a straight blow-back semi-auto.

    You have four options.

1)Load only one cartridge in the magazine.

    2) Load through the ejection port one at a time.

    3) Install a heavier Recoil Spring (if you can find one)

40 Install a heavier Bolt (if you can find one)

I was going to just suggest a stronger recoil spring, but can't figure out why you want to do this modification in the first place.

    5. I cut a refrigerator magnet and a piece of sheet steel which fit over the bolt in the ejection port.
They stop the bolt from cycling on my suppressed 10/22s.

if I use the powderless 20 grain colibri (sp?) ammo the 10/22 will not cycle and I have to pull the bolt back for each shot. that is the cheapest way.

I use CCI, 22Long CB shells in mine and they will not cycle the action and on the plus side they will feed from the mag , so for less than $5 you can try a box and see if they work in your rifle

Where can you get one of the J G bolt Locks for a 10/22? Do they sell them over the web?

a no cost solution - get the 40 grain or less) subsonic rounds or the colibre (sp) primer fired rounds and they won't have enough gas to cycle it so you have to use the bolt handle to hand cycle it. that way you can load the mag and it won't fire more than one round at a time.

try it out first - I know the colibre rounds won't cycle it but its been so long I can't remember if it cycled the 40 grains with or w/o my suppressor. I think they make 38 grain rounds too.

a stiffer recoil spring wouldn't hurt either.
