Mauser 6.35 MM S/N # 294162 question...

My Grandfather left me a little Mauser pistol when he died back in 1971 and I was wondering what I should do to get it restored. It needs a clip, but otherwise it seems to be in working condition. Any suggestions? I think it is a 1910 "Pocket Pistol"...

When collectors use the term "restoration". It means to be put the firearm back as close as possible, to factory original condition. This can be a very big buck proposition. It would be best if you could post pictures of the Mauser for further advice.

Correct magazines are fairly easy to get. There were four different kinds in the 1910 run. Pender's MAUSER POCKET PISTOLS has a breakdown by serno.
You probably don't need to do a restoration, just a good detail cleaning. Put up some photos.

Your Model 1910 is a standard version, that was specifically marked for commercial export sale to the U.S.

Unfortunately it was not well taken care of, in the years since it's original sale. Total restoration to factory original condition would run you over $1000. I would take it to a local gunsmith/refinisher and have it sandblasted, ( this sandblasting will discuse the pitting on the metal ), then have a black oxide coating done over the metal. Replace the grips with modern replica(s). The pistol would look descent after this, and it wouldn't cost you nearly as much as a complete factory restoration.
