I would like some opinions from those of you who have actually shot the NEF Buffalo Classic model CR-1871 rifle in .45-70. I just about have one ordered but haven't put the down payment down yet. Thanks for some honest opinions of this gun.

Considering sending my son's handi rifle back to be fit with a 45-70 buffalo classic barrel, so I can have some fun with it too. Was just wondering if anyone knew if the standard factory forearm would fit this barrel. Rifle was bought as a .243 youth. Thanks in advance.

I believe your forend will fit. Include it along with the rifle (less your barrel) when you send it to H&R/NEF. What are your plans for sights? You are aware that the Buffalo Classic comes without sights? I'd suggest mounting a scope. The barrel is drilled and tapped for a scope base, or you can order a standard length .45/70 barrel with iron sights or with a scope base included. Whichever you buy, the .45/70 is a very good choice for a handi-rifle.

Most likely going with a scope. The first Handi I owned was the standard length 45-70, boy what a shooter. Got amazing groups from it using bulk remington 300 gr hp, dont recall the powder. Got hard up for cash and let it go, still kickin myself over that one.

I have seen a few of these Buffalo Classics from H&R and I could have sworn they had sights on them??

If I'm not mistaken the complete gun comes with a williams rear sight and lyman globe front, but if you buy just the barrel from h&r there are none included.
