.50 Cal 1911 conversion?

Gentleman:
Some time last year I read an article about a .50m Cal 1911. This was not a single shot conversion but rather a Semi auto set up!

The problem is I can't remember, or find, the article. If it helps I believe it was offered as both a complete gun and as a conversion kit.

If anyone knows the company name and or website I would sure like to pass it on to someone in the family that has an interest.[8D]

Guncrafter makes a complete 50 cal 1911 - can't recall if they make a conversion kit.

They make conversion kit for their 45acp 1911, the problem is that the 45acp they make is built on the 50 cal platform, so it only works with their guns. Now you could get the 460 Rowland conversion kit for the mil spec 1911 from Clark custom and have one hell of a blaster.

Hello I think you would have problems on any standard 1911 TYPE frame the magazine well is just not big enough. to get a 50 cal. round in it . IMHO the 45ACP will handle most any thing you would want to shoot with a pistol unless you want to use for big game hunting.

I read the article. As I remember, the balistics were not significantly better then the 45's and I bet the ammo is $$$$$.Maybe a 10mm. would be a better choice.

I recall that also. I think it used a 300 grain bullet at about 750 fps - doesn't seem worth it.

The other .50 GI load is a 275 at 890 fps and handloads possible up to the 300 at 860 fps. Now isn't THAT worth your $2895? (Plus $395 for a .45 conversion kit so you can shoot ordinary ammunition.)

If you want more power go with a 10MM. I think it would make a much better platform.
