ok i have been researching this all over the net, could someone please tell me what constitutes a place of business? In other words do I have to own my home or can I be a renter, to qualify for my FFl. I meet all the other qualifications but i need help with this one. Thanks for your responce in advance.

used to be you could get an FFL and do business out of the house--in the late 90's it started getting harder to do that-I've been told unless you actually have a real storefront it is difficult to get a FFL anymore. you could always put up a prefab building and do it on your property--i know a man who has done this in WA and he also manufactures rifles barrels there.-your best bet is call the ATF directly and ask--also check your local laws regarding zoning.

    Again, call your local ATF.

There are a lot of FFL's who rent/least their storefront. As long as your place of business meets all local/state zoning/regs then you should be fine. It's been a while since I've seen the application but the place where it asks own/rent, if rent then you might have to provide the owners info, I'm not sure. ATF could surely answer these questions for you. Most seem to be pretty helpful. Good luck.

Yes, you can get an FFL to work out of your home, whether or not you own or rent. HOWEVER, it must be permitted by state/local zoning regulations. It is YOUR responsibility to research those regulations, & prove to ATF that you have proper zoning approval, or that you don't need zoning approval. ATF WILL NOT DO THE RESEARCH FOR YOU.

Yes, Neal is correct. My local ATF agent told me they allow sales from home since internet sales are so popular but you must get a letter of approval from your local zoning office and submit it with your paperwork to ATF.

I run my engraving business out of my home. The zoning was no problem so the city gave me a biz license and once I got the FFL I was set.

Also keep in mind that you open up your entire premises to inspection in addition to the area where you conduct your business.

    AGO,
Are you sure about that? I've had FFL's tell me otherwise...That their personal inventory is off limits in buildings/home unattached to the business. ie... Your statement would only be true if it was all under one roof ???

    Not exactly.

ATF can search the entire premises of any licensee, but only after they obtain a warrant. (Read ATF P5300.4, page 41, Para 478.23.) Of course, this also applies to nonlicensees, so no need to lose sleep about it.

Better make sure about homeowner insurance, mine said they would cancel me out if it was in my home or on my property. I used another piece with a seperate deed.
