Sendero 338 RUM

Any premium for this gun? I checked the auction records and can't find any sold ones. They appear pretty rare, as I have done searches elsewhere w/o much luck.
Is this one of those guns that are rare, but nobody wants anyway?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

not gonna bring a premium,...they simply discontinued the chambering due to lack of interest.

    skyhigh_seller,

    "They appear pretty rare,..."

You're in the process of learning that the term 'rare' is not always useful and definitely not accurate just because the number of firearms produced is low.

"Is this one of those guns that are rare, but nobody wants anyway?"

It was a low production run but it wasn't that folks didn't want them, it was that they couldn't handle them. A bunch of rough and tumble hard guys bought these and found out what real recoil was about. Consequently, a goodly number came up for sale again with a partially empty box of factory cartridges. You don't see them for sale often now because the current owners appreciate the value of what they have, are happy with what they have and don't want to replace the rifles.

It will not bring a premium unless there are a couple of die hards searching for one right now.

    Best.

"JustC"- Did they totally discontinue the chambering all together or just in the Sendero series? I have a .338 RUM in a 700 BDL Custom and it is awesome. The most accurate rifle I own.

I'd hate to think Remington dropped the powerhouse of the RUM line.

    DONDALINGER,

Remington is marketing the .338 RUM and the .375 RUM in the M700 XCR model.

The .300 RUM is available in 7 various models.

The 7mm RUM is available in 5 various models.

I think it is an awesome round,..just not for everyone. As Nononsense stated,..you can still buy "sporter" remingtons in this chambering.

Rare? Probably. Premium on the value vs. other Senderos? Probably not. All Senderos are now discontinued and a little hard to find. I sure would not part with mine.
Some confuse rarity with value. A burned out 1923 Chevy truck with flowers growing out of it is rare. When was the last time you saw one? Brand new Corvettes are not rare but are quite valuable. See the difference between rare and valuable?

I looked for one for the longest darn time. Finally gave up, bought a Weatherby AccuMark in 340 WM. With a muzzle brake it's no biggie on recoil and with reloads the difference in brass price is not of any real importance.

I assumed the recoil would be not fun.

So in Rem's wisdom they stopped chambering it in Senderos and now only chamber a lighter 700 in 338 RUM???

    Thanks again folks.

    skyhigh_seller,

"So in Rem's wisdom they stopped chambering it in Senderos and now only chamber a lighter 700 in 338 RUM???"

Remington's wisdom has been brought into question on many occasions in the last few years. I'm sure part of their thinking is that they will have a much broader market by chambering in the sporter rifles as opposed to the older slightly more specialized and bulky Sendero.

As to the recoil, it's perfectly manageable as long as you don't try to benchrest an 8-1/2 lb. rifle to check its accuracy. If you want to shoot it off the bench, get a set up that helps defeat some of the straight line recoil. Common sense. In the field, most folks admit that they rarely if ever notice the recoil of the shot.

I shoot a .338 RUM prone for competition but I use a tank-style brake to calm it down slightly.

    Best.
