AK 47 top cover with scope rail

i recently bought an Yugo AK 47 and I want to put a scope on it. I purchased a scope and cover from Cheaper Than Dirt, but it did not fit. It was 1/2 inch too long. All the covers I have seen have two set screws to the rear that I do not have on my Yugo. Do I need a special rail cover made for a Yugo?

i own a romainian and mine doesn't have two set screws, if you cant find a railed cover that fits cheaper than dirt sells a mount that goes on to the rail on the left side of the reciever thats what i have and it works great w/ my aimpoint. i know this doesn't perfectly answer your question but just giviving you another option.

I think they maybe sent you a Norinco (Chinese) cover. They are longer than the Euros and are smooth. Does the cover they sent you have ridges on the top of the cover like your original? If it is the Chinese cover, contact them and tell them of the mistake.

The cover off my Mak90 and chinese el-cheapo scope cover fit my "euro pattern" ak's....the one I have doesnt have screws. I think they're same length [:D]

Did you call CTD and talk to their technical people? (That's if CTD's tech staff is any good.) Perhaps they can guide you, if they have the knowledge.

Choate Machine & Tool (Google them) has an SKS scope mount that requires holes be drilled and tapped in the driver's side of the SKS receiver. This mount is very, very stable, but you need to get it installed absolutely straight or the scope will be pointed up or down. I would, if you choose to go this way, get the rifle and info on the mount to a good gunsmith, and get him to order the mount, install it and mount the scope.

I measured the covers on my Chinese, Romanian and Yugoslavian AK's. I was wrong about all the Euro's covers being shorter than the Chinese. But my Yugo AK is half an inch shorter than the Chinese and Romanian rifle covers. I believe you will have to ask for a Yugo cover.

Why put a scope on an AK-47 like that?

The set screws are just to tighten up the cover and try to make it have less movement. I tried the cover mounted scope routine on a AK once and found it a waste of time and money. If you must scope it, try the side mount base. It makes life a lot easier when you want to remove the scope, it just slides off and instantly you're back to a stock AK.

I am with TWalker...the top cover scope mount just doesn't work very well...too much of a compromise. The side mount is much better. More work because you have to get the receiver drilled and tapped but if you just have to have a scope or optic system it is the only was to go.

Putting a scope an an AK is a complete waste of time. These were never meant to be that accurate.

I picked up the same setup. After installing it do not see how It can Maintain Zero. To many areas for it to shift. So will just shoot with Iron Sights like it should be.
