Saw one (coach gun length) at the gun show today for $150. It had about 50% blueing left, no noticeable rust or pitting, but had a badly cracked stock. Called my local gunsmith and he told be it would cost about $90 to replace the stock. I passed on the gun but before I got all the way home I got that sick feeling like I missed out something. Did I do right by passing or should I try to go back tomorrow and get it?

Found this site via a search on Google. Did a search on the above topic here but came up blank.[:(]

Looking for info on a 12 guage shotgun. It's a Savage Arms Corp - Stevens Model 311. Manufactured in Chioopee Falls Mass. USA. It's been in the family since the early 70's and I'm the current caretaker.

    Thanks for any help.

Hello I don't think so If you were going to use for Cowboy sass shooting . At least on the one I had you needed to Hold the barrel open to unload the shells It did not cock the hammers and then just hang down at the full cock position . This made it a PITA to try to reload fst. .Your Mileage may vary.

Be patient and you can probably get a better 311 for $150 - 200 although not in .410 or 20 guage. Get a run of the mill 12 guage and cut the tubes to 22' easily.

I'm not so sure that the 311 was ever made in the 20" length so it might have been cut off. I agree that most of the Savage/fox doubles will not stay open far enough to reload. I bird hunted with a Model B for many years and even after all that wear it still required you to hold down on the foreend to drop shells in the chamber.
