T/C Contender question...

I found this at MidWayUsa.

Notes on T/Cr Barrel Length and Rifle/Pistol Configuration:

It is possible to purchase the T/Cr Encore and Contender in a rifle or pistol configuration

Since this is the case, it shall be the responsibility of the consumer to comply with all Federal, State and Local laws regarding barrel length and configuration

It is a violation of Federal Law to use handgun parts, including barrel and/or pistol grip, on an Encore/Contender originally sold as a rifle

For more information, see: The Gun Control Act of 1968 U.S.C. Title 18, Chapter 44

How does this work out if you just buy the frame? Any ideas?

If you buy just the frame (new) it has been manufactured as and will be sold as either a handgun or a rifle. If you buy a 2nd hand frame alone, you can contact T/C and they'll tell you if it was manufactured as a handgun or rifle.

I'd guess there are many rifle frames that were sold 2nd hand as handguns and being used as handguns. However routine that may be it is illegal.

If you are after complete versatility, then the only thing to do is purchase a NEW T/C Encore/Contender frame that was manufactured with a pistol, if you are legally eligable. If you choose to make it into a rifle, shotgun or muzzle loader, you can do so legally. You just can't take a rifle and make it into a pistol.
