Scout Style Scope

I would like nice a scout style scope 1", this is not a large caliber rifle that it will go on and I do not need that much eye relief. The Burris 1X Mag Scope is in the ballpark as far as style, I don't need the eye relief or maginum durability of this scope.

Your question lacks clarity. A scout type scope is usually mounted on the barrel or the forward portion of the receiver. Because of this you need a scope, that does have long eye relief. There are a number of manufacturers that make this type of scope both for "Scout" type mounting, and use on handguns.

If your not going to mount the scope on the forward portion of the receiver, a standard type scope can be used. I don't know if their still available, but at one time scope manufacturers made standard 2 1/2 & 4 power scopes that were short and light, like the the "scout" type scopes.

I know technically they are not the same, but you could most certainly use a handgun scope as a scout scope. I shoot left handed because I'm left eye dominant and use the scout set up because it's easier for me to work a bolt with the scope well ahead of the receiver. Weaver makes some solid and compact handgun scopes as do Burris and Bushnell, Leupold, etc.

I have an older rifle that will only accept one type of rings and the front part of the modern scopes will not clear the barrel. I have seen the style scope on a lot of old lever actions and set real low on the receiver and barrel. I had an old Bushnell scope with the stright front scout style and the standard rear style, I sold it and should have held on to it.

    Anyone else got ideas!
