Muzzle Brake

I've been hearing that in you have a muzzle brake that can open and close, like on my Savage, you will not have the same point of impact if you sight your rifle in with the brake open, then shoot it with the brake closed. Any truth to this? Mine doesn't seem to make any difference out to 200 yds. at the range.

Thanks.
It could affect it if when closed gases applied pressure on the bullet that wouldn't be applied if the brake were open. I could see it happening if where the ports are, there are slight escutcheons caused by the ports when closed. Meaning if the inside of the end of the barrel isn't flat and smooth it can cause air disturbances while the bullet is exiting the barrel. The smoother the interior of the barrel is when closed the less chance for disruption.
Other than that I could see a change in harmonics at the end of the barrel.
EDIT:
Good post Feenix, I will say though in this case the weight{brake} at the end of the barrel isn't being removed. Harmonics could be changed depending on the impingement of the gases to the vents....or returning back to disrupt the bullet. I would think though that Savage(if this is a Savage brake) would have thought that out ahead of time.
