Need advice/help on 11-87 scope mnts/base

I have a friend who is dead set on drilling and tapping his reciever on the 11-87 prem. can this even be done? to add a scope for hunting deer here in Ohio,..I tried to get him to look at saddle mnts..cant.barrels..etc..no way..anyone know what base he can use to mnt a scope on this gun?..weaver/type base or other..we at least have a good reputable machine shop here to do the work..thks..Loko

    LOKO383...Remington makes a no drill one. Just go to Remington's website...or type in remington 11-87 scope mount on your search engine...should be about the second item down. As for drilling and tapping you can drill and tap just about anything...just so there is enouph material to drill and tap. I personally would go with the Remington factory mount...they made the gun and mount and I have never had problems with that approach.

    A number 62 Weaver base is the one to use.

    If the bbl.has a VR then have your friend search the net for the scope mount rail that attaces to it. Remington use to make them, it makes a solid mount without drilling and tapping the receiver. We have four of them in our hunting group and really like them.
