I am looking at a used Dan Wesson 357 revolver. It looks good. However the rear sight is a notch in the frame. There is no adjustment. Can I trust it to shoot to the point of aim? Also how difficult, ($) to add a scope or other optical sight? Is Dan Wesson a good revolver?

Have a chance to buy a Dan Wesson 357mag, serial#190746 would like to know the model/year of this gun. adjustable sights, 4" barrel. Also when the gun warms up from being shot the trigger stays back in the fired position, and has to be pushed forward manually to reset, any thoughts?

    Hello all, new blood here.
I have a Dan Wesson arms 357 Magnum model 15 manufactured in Monson, Mass, serial number 359xxx that I purchased from a friend needing money in 1982. The gun has a vented, interchangeable, 4" barrel, original wood grips with DW insert, rear sight is both windage and elevation adjustable. I have shot less than fifty rounds in the gun in the many years I have owned it. I still have half of the box of 38 special ammo I got when I bought the gun from him. I didn't realize I don't especially like revolvers until I owned one. I would like to sell the gun to buy another semi-auto pistol that I do like, but have no idea what this gun is worth. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Gun is in very good mechanical shape with a few very small cosmetic spots.
    Thanks.

Without photos I'm just guessing it's a model 15. If there is an exposed barrel nut it's an earlier model 12. If it's a model 15 with that serial number it probably dates to the late 70's/early 80's.

You know the barrel is interchangeable? Check the Barrel/cylinder gap and see if it is 0.006", a lot of times these are put back together by people who haven't a clue and without a feeler gage it's just a guess what the clearance is.

Could be dried grease in the lockwork also.

Lot of speculation but without photos I'm guessing what model it might be. Is it a Monson, Mass gun? These pistols were made in three different sites under 3 different companies, currently owned by CZ.

in the side plate there is a little lug that sticks out to stop the rearward motion of the cylinder when ejecting shells. If the lug is loose or pushed to far into the side plate it rubs against the trigger. That could be what is holding the trigger back.

It is a Monson gun and from what you describe a model 15. I got just the gun and no feeler gauge so I don't have a good way to check the gap. I'm new to the revolver world and would like to give the gun a really good cleaning to see if that makes a difference. I'm a little reluctant to take the gun appart to far and find myself in over my head. Any thoughts on getting this thing cleaned up?

You can clean lockwork fairly well WITHOUT disassembly by using a spray cleaner, like Gunscrubber. The cylinder gap should be .006- use any standard flat feeler guage- unscrew barrel nut, turn barrel out, with cylinder closed, place feeler guage on face of cylinder, turn barrel down until touches, tighten barrel nut, remove feeler guage.

Thanks to all who responded. I'm back in the game with this gun. Checked the gap and it's right at.006 Sprayed some Gunslick gun-flush through it and reoiled it and it seems to be doing fine. Sure glad it was a simple fix.

Sounds like you have it fixed. You really ought to get a barrel wrench, though. Having a removable barrel gun without the barrel wrench is a little bit like having a car with a spare tire and no lug wrench...............YMMV
