Is there anybody who makes a .300 winchester magnum barrel with a breech diameter of 1.350, for the Surgeon XL action?

Just find a .308 barrel blank that matches the breach diameter you want, and have your gunsmith thread and chamber it.

IOW finding one that's already made to match your action and cartridge choice is a 1 in a billion shot.

    Not already made.

I guess I phrased that incorrectly.

I'm looking for someone who would MAKE that custom barrel and ship it here.

Bluntly, I simply do not trust my local gunsmith with something like this.

Any barrel maker of your choice should be able to that for you. Just provide them with the critical information.

I would suggest Lothar Walther. They have a "newer, better" barrel steel., LM50. That's what I have on my AR-30. It's typically a .5MOA barrel. Hope that helps, -good luck

    Mk23,

I hear this statement more times than I care to say. It makes me sad to hear that you can't trust a gunsmith that is local to you. The convenience of working locally and supporting the local gunsmith is always the best bet in my opinion.

The question to settle is do you want the entire barrel finished, threaded, chambered, headspaced and installed?

The reason I ask is that any of the custom barrel makers will be able to help you with the size and contour simply because most of them have converted over to CNC lathes for their contour operations and offer custom contours. Some of the custom barrel makers will also do the threading and chambering but some don't.

This is a fairly complete list of barrel makers:

    Shilen Barrels
    Hart Rifle Barrels
    Lilja Barrels
    Pac-Nor Barrels
    Krieger Barrels
    Lothar Walther Barrels
    Spencer Rifle Barrels
    Broughton Rifle Barrels
    Douglas Barrels
    Bullberry Barrel Works
    Blackstar Barrels
    Schneider Barrels
    Wiseman Barrels
    Lawton Rifle Barrels
Classic Barrels and Gunworks-Dan Pedersen Cut Rifled Barrels
    Gaillard Barrels
    E.R. Shaw Barrels
    Kostyshyn Precision Barrels
    Butler Creek Barrels
    Volquartzen Barrels
    Badger Barrels
    Border Barrels
    Sarco M16 Barrels
    Montana Rifleman Barrels
    VanHorn Barrels
    Green Mountain Barrels

    Please check your e-mail.

    Best.

I doubt anybody will sell you a barrel contoured, threaded, chambered and ready to screw in and shoot due to headspacing concerns. Would Surgeon not put a barrel on one of their own actions for you?

    Hawk,

They will if you send them your action for the fitting and headspacing. That should be an implicit understanding for those of us who work with firearms and not some recalcitrant remark designed to impugn a posters knowledge. Maybe you should take a break since you seem to be a bit contentious.

    Best.

Contact Hart Rifle Barrels. Send them your action, tell them what you want and they will do it (within reason). They do excellent work.
