Winchester 94 trigger pull

I recently purchased a Winchester 94 chambered in 44mag. I like the rifle, but the trigger pull is too heavy, causing me to shoot very poorly with it. I am no sniper, but am normally good enough to score the hits I need to. I am discouraged from hunting with it because I do not want to wound an animal and never see it again. I even had a friend who is an experienced marksman take a few shots and he agreed with me that the trigger pull was way to heavy. Is this how they normally come new out of the box now? Can a gunsmith tweak it a bit for a lighter trigger pull?

f.y.i. winchester has been out of business for a few years now! best!
FYI: Winchester is NOT out of business. In fact, they were at the "Shot Show" just a couple of weeks ago. They simply closed the original New Haven factory and moved production overseas. They no longer manufacture the Model 70 or 94 but you can view their current firearms at http://www.winchesterguns.com or get factory service at http://www.winchesterguns.com/services/srvrepar.asp
