S&W M-39 ASP Conversion

Does anyone know how to tell if an ASP conversion is the real thing? That is, are there any gunsmith's marks anywhere on the gun? I have a chance to pick up what looks to be a bona fide ASP in a local shop, but the only non-standard mark I can find is "ASP" on the bottom of the magazine floorplate. Otherwise it's a chopped Model 39-2 with no other distinguishing marks.
The few ASPs I've seen on the internet all look identical to the one I handled locally, down to the "Guttersnipe" rear sight, hooked trigger guard and skeletonized magazine. The Lexan grips are a bit cloudy in appearance, and there is very minor holster wear on the finish, which is some sort of matte epoxy-looking stuff. Overall at least 90% or better. Asking price is $795.
Opinions on value and originality? Thanks.

If you want a collectible one, I'd wait until I found one NIB, even though you will pay a lot more. But, for a shooter, well, the ASP has seen it's day. You can get a smaller personal defense 9mm with modern engineering for half the price.
But, if it's a gun you've always wanted, go for it.
