I would like to mount a red dot optical sight on my 1911. What would be the best kind? Where the gun would still be 100% reliable and I won't have cases hitting it and falling back into the gun.

Hello I have a Slide mounted Gilmore red dot on my WAD gun for bulls-eye shooting with about 150.000 rounds through it with onl a hand full caused by the red dot Be aware you need to have the ejection port enlarged to same size as a series 70 gold cup. some pistols are and some older slides are smaller. You will also have the ejector and extractor "TUNED" for 100% function. and the recoil spring will have to be correct weight to the load. I have tried frame TUNNEL mounts but they are a PITA to clear a malfunction or unload the pistol without endangering your off hand and have weird recoil feel. a grip mount WILL break IT WILL be hard to keep zeroed . Your mileage and/or opinion may vary.
