Some times if the pistol has had the barrel installed for a long time it will almost lock the take-down button in place. In this case what I do is to take aRAW-HIDE mattlet and rap the button once Then I lock the slide back and push in the button then the barrel will lift straight up off of the frame , To replace I push in button and then again with slide back lower the barrel stud into the frame and release button . I then pull back the slide and let it snap closed 3 or 4 times to seat the barrel without pulling the trigger . You can use a section round wood like a 12 inch X 1 inch dowel rod to do the same thing do not hit with a steel hammer.

As stated a quick wack with a non - marring mallet will sort of break the set and you should then be able to depress the plunger by hand. Holding the gun in a vise is helpful, but not an absolute.

You almost need a 3rd hand, but I hold the gun grip in my off hand, rest the mag opening on my hip. Put my fingers & palm over the top of the barrel with my thumb just in front of the button, use my strong hand thumb in the "thumbs down" position to depress the spring powered button.

You should leave a little manipulation room for your fingers while your thumb presses solidly against the button. Harder than to describe than to do.

FYI - if you want to add a barrel, the stud that fits into the frame mounted barrel plunger may need to be fitted a bit so it will easily be removed from the plunger. Notice the edge of the stud is nicely rounded on the way in, but there's a near straight edge on the stud that can be caught on the top edge of the plunger.

Numrich Arms catalog has a nice schematic that shows the specifics.

I lock the slide back and use a plastic hammer on mine.

if you lock back the slide, when you whack it, the slide could come off lock and fly off the rails if you take off the bbl at the same time.[;)] if you lock it back, make sure the mag stays in.
