I have a Remington 660 in a .223 cal., why does it appear to have a 3 stamped over a 2 on the calibur marking located on the barrel? Did the Rem. factory rechamber the .222 barrel when one of the 227 special orders came in for a .223 calibur? Any info would be nice.

If someone has a 660 in a .223 cal., look and see if the 3 is larger than the 2, let me know. The rifle has been in the family since 1975. From the research I've done less than 650 .223 cal. rifles where chambered between 1964-71 in the model 760, mohawk 600 and the model 660. That might explain the larger 3 on a .222 barrel.
I contacted Remington through a e-mail address on their site, a while back. This was regarding questions about of one of their guns. They responded in less then 48 hrs.
You might consider doing this to verify what cartridge your rifle was chambered for, when it left the factory.
I don't remember the specific URL of the Remington site? Only that it was a complicated multi-level site, that was a b**ch to navigate.
I'm not much of a navigter, but it will surely keep me busy. I contacted the Remington Society to see what they can tell me about the early .223 rifle and what procedure was used in manufacturing.
