Were any 74's drilled and tapped for scope base or wood checkered at the Win factory?

I don't recall any checkering on the 74s I have owned. Possibly a dovetail of some later ones, but the real deals will know for sure,,,nambu

Not aware of any factory checkering or scoping options. I do know that the one 74 I've owned was one of, if not the most, accurate, open sight .22 rifle I've everowned with the exception of a couple of 52's. Rear nice rifles.

Many thanks Bert, a cousin of mine has contracted the Winchester collecting bug.He was looking at a mod 74 that was both D&T and checkered(very nice job),I felt the gun had been customized out side the Win factory but I could get the skinny here! very best

I have 3 model 74's and none of them have been checkered. Two of them had a lot thicker stock though. They have been my absolute favorite .22's that I have ever shot. They will always be a gun I'll try to collect.
