Soured on Leupold

Say what you want about Leupold but a few years ago I sent in a scope to Leupold with a broken crosshair. It cost me $100 to have it fixed. They said it had been abused but, there was not a mark on the scope and not abused. I paid and then sent a letter of protest to the repair dept. and to the CEO of Leupold never got a response from either. From then on it's been anything but a Leupold. Have also soured some friends on Leupold with this story. Anyway thanks for listening to my rant. Terrill.

Maybe enclose some pictures of the scope to show the lack of visible abuse. Years ago I sent one in and it came back fixed and free of charge. Maybe times are changing there too. That sucks when warraties are meaningless.

i sent one in for a customer about a month ago that had a bent tube. they no longer made that style of scope so they sent a nib vari-x 2. hard to believe they would charge you then. i am not a big leuplold fan either(i sell 80%) nikons here in my store.

It's amazing how people have different experiences with Leupold. Mine has been excellent. Last year I misplaced my elevation adjustment cover on a Leupold LPS and wrote them requesting to buy a replacement. They sent me a replacement an an extra cover at no charge. The kicker was I found my misplaced cover a couple of months later and called Leupold to offer to return the covers, they told me to keep them and enjoy the scope.

My first experience, about 5 years ago, was about fixing a bent tube on an older 3X9 Leupold. The dent was my fault and I told them so. The scope came back to me looking like new. Shipping and repair costs were less than $80.00. It still works and looks like new. I have several different brands of quality scopes and all of them have provided good service. I think Leupold scopes are very comparable to other quality scope maker products. Service for most folks I know has been excellent.

So, I wouldn't condemn them or any other company over one incident everyone has an off day, even good companies.

If you think Leupold is bad (and they've treated me good), wait until you need warrenty service on a Weatherby.

Sorry you are sour. Leupold remains one of the best scopes make in the US. Don't your friends think for themselves?

Yeah, Nikon and Simmons have pi$$ed me off big time. Leupold and Burris have been everything I could have asked for and more the couple of times I've had to send a scope in to them.
