Need some help identifying a S&W box...box is 14x6 1/2" blue green, w/blue flocked interior for revolver w/ cutout for 6" barrel plus frame and grip. Cut-out for cylinder looks square..Material is a heavy masonite type material with the S&W 2" round logo on top left....... destindon1@yahoo.com

If by item in red you are refering to a separate cut-out for the cylinder, then it may very well be for a model 53 S&W. Extra (.22LR) cyl. was an option. Look for six vertical slots in the box. That's a dead giveaway it's a '53. They're for .22LR inserts. Best, Joe

I have seen one of those boxes before. I think they are made of a "bakelite" material. They are salesmans sample boxes. I almost bought one at auction a few months ago.

I have a model 53 and all of the model 53 boxes I have ever seen are the blue cardboard with cardboard insert with cutouts for the gun, 22lr inserts, and extra cylinder if ordered.

Box may be bakelite...It is a well made hinged box with a cut-out for a single revolver and a shallow cut-out 7 3/4 " by 1 5/8 below the barrel portion of where the gun would sit....I thank you fellows for your answers....dd.
